barbers in the attic
“A classic man is a distinguished man. He cares about taste and his craft. He’s all about the simple model that I live by – eat, drink, be swanky, and have fun getting the job done. He makes sure that he’s excellent in all things and that he cares about his neighbourhood immensely.”
– Jidenna Theodore Mobisson
Founded by Faz Ismail, DeepCuts Barber’s offers classic haircuts for the quintessential gentleman (or open-minded lady) who has made looking good and sharp part of one’s lifestyle.
But before the barbershop materialised into what it is now, Faz began his barbering career in the ghetto neighbourhood of Yishun with no proper set-up. By no proper set-up, he literally cut hair in a makeshift space outside a residential unit on the first floor of a HDB block.
He then rented two seats in a barbershop across the street (which clearly didn’t work out well) before finally making the bold move of finding his own space. He eventually found a home in a shophouse attic on Kampong Bahru Road.
Since then, he’s stepped outside his comfort zone and travelled across the world to seek knowledge. That journey led him to Rotterdam where he learnt from the best at The Old-School Barber Academy by Schorem. Even after being certified, he wasn’t satisfied with his résumé and got himself personally mentored by the only and only Dennis Da Costa aka DeDaCo.
Today, DeepCuts Barber’s has received numerous accolades, and is ranked number 6 by Influence Digest in a list of the top barbershops around the world.
Faz continues to march towards greater heights with his crew as they establish a brand that they can be proud of and hopefully withstand the test of time.
But don’t let all that success fool you. At the end of the day, they’re just a bunch of hardworking hair aficionados, pursuing their passion for male-grooming in the attic.
